Le Trico is an application for buying and selling fashion items between individuals present in New Caledonia. Inspired by the world leader Vinted, which does not operate in this geographical area, it offers a local solution that is very popular with its several thousand users.

While New Caledonian society, like many others around the world, has long favoured new products, environmental awareness and the promotion of the circular economy have led to a significant change in consumer habits.

This transition to second-hand is part of a collective desire to reduce waste, preserve natural resources and support more ethical and responsible economic practices.

The second-hand market in New Caledonia has diversified, extending from clothing and accessories to electronics, furniture, and beyond, attracting a varied clientele eager to save money while participating in an ecological approach. This phenomenon is driven by different actors, from specialist shops to online platforms, flea markets and community initiatives, each contributing in their own way to this significant shift towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

Initial problem

In 2020, while Vinted and other players in the sale of fashion items between individuals are expanding around the world, no solution exists for the inhabitants of New Caledonia. It is in this context that Le Trico was born.

A year later, Rachel Roux, who saw this application as a future local leader, bought the company and immediately started developing the commercial aspects and new features for its users.

For the time being, the young application only offers a service for placing ads and putting individuals in touch with each other. In order to provide more security and offer an alternative to cash payment, the new manager undertook the integration of a secure payment feature coupled with a delivery service and Rachel knows that the Go to market is a crucial factor for success.
